PATAPIO'S HOLY MONASTERY

If you want to have an experience that will lift your spirit and mood, then the Monastery of Saint Patapios expresses exactly what you want. A mysterious complex is located on a steep slope overlooking Loutraki. A monastery with significant content worthy of climbing its 150 steps, since the whole Corinthian is spread out in front of you.

Built in 1952, it is a three-storey basilica with single and triple windows, with frescoes dating from the 13th century. In the monastery stands the sacred relic of Saint Potapios, which was traditionally a miracle worker, found with Byzantine coins and a wooden cross.

As we enter the monastery of Agios Patapios, we meet the Church of the Assumption (Virgin Mary). This church was sanctified on August 18, 1968 by Metropolitan Corinth of Panteleimon. Inside the church we find in the center the image of the saint celebrating that day. On the right we see the icon of Agios Patapios on the right of which is the large icon of Panagia Eleousa which is full of tangents on the wall. On the left we can see the icon of Agia Pomona, on the left side of which is the large picture of Agios Patapios, along with Agia Patios and Agios Nikos the New. Within the church of the Virgin Mary there is adjacent the church of Agioi Anargyroi.

The cave of Agios Patapios is next to the church of Panagia. There, his remains are kept in a shrine, covered with rasos (this rasso changes every year in his feast).

In the cave there are also Byzantine hagiographies (including Saint Patapios and St. Patience) by unknown hagiographers, which were probably painted in the 15th century AD. Many visitors to the monastery take an amulet from the cave as a piece of cotton soaked with the oil of the saint (from the candle burning in the cave of the saint) and also receive holy water from an adjoining cave.
